Highway 321 in Blowing Rock Remains Closed after Rockslide


It was a week ago today after 5.31 inches of rain that the rockslide occurred.  We have had ongoing communication from Mayor Sellers, and he has been very engaged in getting the highway open.  There is some discussion that one or two lanes may initially open.  The structure that sits atop the slide is still a significant uncertainty and may delay safely opening the highway.  This link provides a very informative update from WSOC TV Channel 9.

From TDA: BR Occupancy Tax


Blowing Rock Occupancy Tax revenues totaled $103,613.64 in February. Overnight visitors in Blowing Rock pay this 6% tax on their hotel and short-term rental stays. For February, these collections represent $1,726,894 in revenues at our local lodging alone! This total is 8.57% more than February 2023.

  • May 14, 2024: Absentee ballot return deadline (7:30 p.m.).*
