TOWN OF BLOWING ROCK CANDIDATE FORUMS

September 23, 2021

Dear Blowing Rock Homeowners,

The Civic Association and Chamber will offer two different types of Candidate Forums, but first let’s talk about the election and voter registration.

Candidates

The candidates running for Mayor and Town Council follow.

Mayor Charlie Sellers is running unopposed.

Four candidates are running for three Town Council seats:

  • Nancy Collins
  • Pete Gherini
  • Doug Matheson
  • Melissa Pickett

Your Vote Counts

November 2nd will be our election day for the Mayor and three Town Council seats.  Candidates win by as few as 35 to 50 votes.  So, voter registration can impact this election.

The voter registration deadline is October 8th. You can register to vote in various ways as explained on the Watauga County Board of Elections website https://www.ncsbe.gov/registering/how-register  or Caldwell County Board of Elections website at https://www.caldwellcountync.org/elections/register-to-vote

Blowing Rock Civic Association Candidate Videos

Given the restrictions on meetings, we decided to offer candidates a chance to participate in a video interview designed to focus on five key issues important to homeowners.  Jean Kitchen will interview our candidates to solicit their views about the following key issues:

1.     Fund /7 Transport Ambulance

2.     Revise Downtown Land Use Code for  West Main Street

3.     Eliminate Special Use Permit

4.     Implement Tourism Management Plan

5.     Secure Additional Funding for Cost of Tourism

We will release the five videos in early October for you to review.
